Operator competency is now a reality in Canada. As of 2009 all operators will be required to carry proof of competency such as a Pleasure Craft Operator Card! The PCOC (Pleasure Craft Operator Card) or otherwise known as the Boater Licence is not actually a 'licence,' it is 'proof of competency'. However due to confusion by the public, throughout our website we will refer to the Pleasure Craft Operator Card as your Boater Licence.
There are three simple steps for writing the online Boating Exam:
Once you've successfully completed the boater exam, a plastic (credit-card-style) boating licence will be mailed to you. We will provide you with an interim boater card in the mean time. Once you've obtained your boater licence, the certification is good for life! You never have to rewrite the boating exam. If you ever lose your boat license, we have your boater information on file so that we can issue you a replacement!
The key objective of the Canadian Coast Guard accredited Boating Safety course is to give people the basic knowledge required to safely operate their motorized vessels in shared waterways. For those who already have a great deal of 'nautical know-how', there is the option of the challenge exam to prove that you already have the skills needed to meet the Pleasure Craft Operator Competency requirements. We strongly encourage beginners to take a course or at the very least, purchase a study manual before taking the exam.
Register for your online exam today! Our online exam is fast and simple to use. The boater exam costs only $49.95 (incl. GST) to write, upon successful completion, we will mail your card to you at no extra charge!
